“I am coffee” — Real espresso in NYC

This October, as I do every year since I moved to New York, I went to the city for a weekend trip with my friends Diana, Joe, and Austin. Needless to say that we had a great time and great food together. In fact, Diana, who is originally from Uzbekistan, took us to a fantastic Uzbek restaurant in Brooklyn. But this will be my next post. Here I want to talk about a tiny hidden coffee place in the heart of the East Village @ 9 Saint Marks Place (between 2nd & 3rd), 10003 New York.

This place opened in December 2012 and it is managed by Caterina and Nicola who are both experts about coffee and import it from caffe’ “Terzi” from Bologna, Italy. In addition to serve fantastic espresso, they also make their own signature drinks, both hot and cold. They also taught me some tricks on how to better make moka coffee without wasting the very essential oils that coffee contains. Can’t wait to try it!

Above on the right we have the drink of the month: iced coffee, liquid sugar, apples, anise, and ginger. Absolutely delicious and very easy to make it at home. On the left we have what I like to call a “new age cappuccino”.

DSC07471As a good Italian, I had a delicious espresso after lunch!

What a wonderful day to finish a wonderful weekend in the city that never sleeps! Thanks again to Diana (always present partner of wicked adventures), Joe, and Austin!
